Passion, politics, and pulse-pounding rhythm collide! Martín Palmeri’s “Misatango” electrifies the Latin Mass with fiery Argentinian “new tango,” blending chorus, bandoneón, and strings in a bold, emotional ride that has energized audiences on several continents. By embedding tango’s harmonic language, rhythms, and melodic designs in the orchestra, Palmeri frees the chorus to simply “sing the Mass”, plunging the audience into a world of uplifting emotions, passion, and syncopation.
Opening the concert is Lamentations of the Prophet Jeremiah by Alberto Ginastera, an intense work written in exile in 1946. Setting Latin texts from the Book of Lamentations and with dissonant harmonies, jagged rhythms, and stark contrasts, Ginasteri’s music expresses profound sorrow and spiritual desolation.
Adding to the verve of the Latin American program are scintillating dance performances by Boston-based tangueros, curated by bandoneonist Alex Roitman and accompanied by a tango instrumental ensemble. With mezzo-soprano Laura Beth Couch and bandoneonist Alex Roitman. Join the Rotary Club of Natick for the 23rd Annual Tour de Natick, a fun, family-friendly 6-mile bike ride through town. The ride begins and ends at Natick Common and is suitable for riders of all ages and abilities. After the ride, participants are invited to enjoy a complimentary cookout on the Common.
Proceeds support the Rotary Club of Natick’s charitable foundation, including scholarships for Natick High School seniors and educational programs benefiting local students.
