Dog Bites, A Tree Dispute And A Parking Spot Dispute: Wellesley Police Logs

WELLESLEY, MA — The following are excerpts from the Wellesley police log for Sept. 25 to Sept. 30, 2017. All are presumed innocent unless found guilty in a court of law. Monday, Sept. 25

• Timber! At 12:45 p.m. Officer K. Poirier spoke with a woman at the police station about a dispute she had last week with a neighbor about tree branches being trimmed on her property without her permission. Officer Poirier then spoke with the builder for the neighbor’s property who indicated that the tree company had cut down too many branches and he would take responsibility for it. Both were advised if a disagreement occurred in the future to contact the Wellesley Police right away to avoid further conflict.
• Bank Robbery prompts lockdown: at 1:09 p.m. several officers were dispatched to Bank of America, located at 35 Washington Street, for a report of a bank robbery. The bank employee indicated a man had robbed the bank. The employee described the suspect as having a darker complexion, approximately 5’11” with a muscular build, wearing a dark colored long sleeve shirt, sunglasses, a black baseball cap with a white oval shaped logo on it. It was reported that the male party fled the bank through the rear door on foot. Witnesses reported to responding officers that the suspect entered a dark colored sedan on Ledyard Street, but did not observe a direction of travel. Officers responded and began checking the area for the vehicle and suspect. Due to the close proximity of St. John’s Elementary School and as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of the students, officers asked that students remain inside the building until officers checked the area. The Wellesley Police requested the assistance of the Massachusetts State Police K-9 unit to check the area. The K-9 check of the area was negative. The search was completed prior to the dismissal of school and students were dismissed in the usual manner. Detectives responded to the bank and processed the scene and are working with the FBI Boston Bank Robbery Task Force to identify the suspect. • Bomb's away: at 1:55 p.m. Officer Kane was dispatched to a residence on Great Plain Avenue to take custody of old ammunition that was no longer wanted by the resident. Officer Kane returned the ammunition to the police department where it will be properly stored until it can be destroyed.

Tuesday, Sept. 26

• See something say something: at 1:44 p.m. Officer J. Popovski was dispatched to the area of Great Plain Avenue to assist an older woman who was confused and had wandered away from her home. When Popovksi arrived a Norfolk County Sheriff who was working a construction detail in the area had already helped return her home. A family member who cares for the woman indicated he would be interested in learning more about services that may be available for his family. Officer R. Poirier who is the department’s elder resource officer will follow up with the family.
• Traffic stop prompts arrest: 6:30 p.m. Officer Keenan was on patrol on Washington Street when he saw an Acura sedan travel east past his location, he conducted a query of the vehicle’s registration which showed that the registered owner’s license was suspended. He stopped the vehicle on the on-ramp to Route 9 east from Washington Street. He asked the operator, Jamil Lyons for his license and registration. Lyons told police he did not have his driver’s license with him but provided his name and date of birth to Officer Keenan. A query of his information showed that his license was suspended and that there were two active default warrants issued by Framingham District Court for his arrest. Both warrants were for motor vehicle related charges. He was taken into custody, transported to the station, booked in the usual manner, afforded all rights and later released on bail.

Thurs. Sept. 28

• Warrant for breaking and entering: at 6:10 a.m. Detectives from the Wellesley Police Department executed a search warrant at two locations in Brockton, MA in relation to a breaking and entering that had occurred at a business on Washington Street in Wellesley on August, 23 2017. During that break several computers were stolen. Detectives responded to the scene and through their investigation learned that items that had been were registered to individuals that resided at two addresses in Brockton, MA. Detectives from the Wellesley Police Department, NORPAC and Officers from the Brockton Police Department arrived at both residences at 6:10 a.m. and made contact with the residents, provided them with a copy of the search warrants and advised that they were there to search for computers that had been stolen. In both residences computers were recovered. Mr. Christopher Brown and Mr. Joshua Brown were taken into custody, transported to the station, booked in the usual manner, afforded all rights and later transported to Dedham District Court.
• Dog bite incident: At 10:51 a.m. Officer Cunningham was dispatched to a residence on Madison Road for a report of a past dog bite incident. The reporting party stated she was walking on Sheridan Road when three dogs approached her from a property across the street and began to snarl and show their teeth in an aggressive manner. She stated she stomped her foot on the ground in an attempt to get the dogs to leave at which point one of the dogs bit her leg. She said a female party exited the residence and there was a verbal exchange between them. ACO Webb will follow up with the incident.
• And another one: At 4:15 p.m. Officer DiCenso was dispatched to the Warren Building for a report of a small child being bit by a dog. The dog owner was present and had the dog on a leash at the time. The owner indicated that the small child had been petting the dog without issue immediately preceding the dog bite and she has children at home and has never had an issue. The child suffered a laceration to the arm and the child’s mother will seek medical attention. ACO Webb will follow up on the incident.
• Stolen: at 5:44 p.m. Officer Wall spoke with a female reporting party from Shaw Road about items that were missing from the residence. She stated that most of the missing items were last seen last February and a few in early September. There have been multiple people at the residence since this time period and there are no suspects.
• Drinking and driving: at 11:00 p.m. Officer Wall was dispatched to the area of Oak Street by Pinewood Road for an erratic operator. A red Volkswagen was located in the area by Officer Rosenberg who stopped the vehicle, but as Officer Rosenberg attempted to approach the vehicle the operator put the vehicle in gear and sped off turning onto Ivy Road. Officer Wall followed the vehicle onto Ivy Road and observed the vehicle was traveling on the wrong side of the road and stopped the vehicle a second time in the area of Ivy Road and Pleasant Street. Officer Wall approached the vehicle and spoke with the operator, Ms. Amy Nutt and noticed that her eyes were bloodshot and glassy and there was an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her person. Officer Wall spoke with Ms. Nutt who had some difficulty answering his questions and she indicated she had consumed a small amount of alcohol. He asked Ms. Nutt if she would be willing to take some reasonable tests of balance and coordination. She took and failed two field sobriety tests. She was taken into custody, transported to the station, booked in the usual manner, afforded all rights and later transported to Dedham District Court. The vehicle was inventoried per departmental policy prior to being towed from the scene. During this inventory an open container of alcohol was located on the floor of the vehicle.

Friday,September 29

• Watch your credit cards: At 2:29 p.m. Officer Hughes spoke with a resident from Grove Street about a stolen credit card. The report is incomplete at this time and no further information is available.
• That's my parking spot: At 7:32 p.m. Officer Rosenberg was dispatched to the rear parking lot behind a row of businesses on Central Street for a dispute between two male parties. One of the male parties had parked in the other man's assigned parking spot. The man who leases the parking space blocked him in and when he returned to the vehicle a verbal dispute began and he began video recording the incident. The other male party was upset he was being recorded and it was explained to him that it was not against the law to video record someone in public. Peace was restored and both parties went their separate ways.

Saturday, Sept. 30

Get your car inspected (and maybe your licence renewed): At 10:25 a.m. Officer Shore was conducting traffic enforcement on Worcester Street near Emerson Road when he observed a Ford pickup truck pass his location with no inspection sticker. He stopped the vehicle and made contact with the operator, Mr. Elias Deaguiar who was unable to provide him with a driver’s license. A query of his information showed that his license was revoked. He was taken into custody, transported to the station, booked in the usual manner, afforded all rights and transported to Dedham District Court.
