Health Department: Beware Insects Out for Blood

Office advises on mosquito season precautions.

While vampires in the movies are enjoying new heights of popularity, the Wellesley Health Department warns residents that mosquitoes - albeit not supernatural - are also out for blood.

While mosquito bites don't carry the supernatural consequences of a vampire attack, they do have the potential of transmitting West Nile Virus and Eastern Equine Encephalitis.

The department warns residents to take the insects into account during the warmer months. The department's website has posted a list of precautionary steps to take to protect yourself from the insectile blood-suckers. In short - cover up, use bug spray and observe peak mosquito hours of early morning and evening.
