The game was 5-2 at the top of the fifth, but in the bottom Lexington really showed their game.
Against Wellesley's pitcher Sarah Goss, Lexington ran across home plate five times.
There were two outs after the third batter swung, with Fiona Dugan on second. All that had to happen was for the fourth batter, Amanda Charlton, to strike out and end the inning. But, that didn't happen. Dugan landed at third and Charlton at second. Then, Dugan and Charlton scored off of Fiona Fitzgerald's single, making it 5-4. Then Fitzgerald scored after stealing second and then third — by Kelly's fumble — when Orcutt singled a hit into right field and Wellesley's Leone held the ball for too long. Now the game was tied 5-5. And then, Mia Foley – Lexington's eighth batter up against Goss — hit deep into center field and scored Julia Morison (courtesy runner for Orcutt) and Catherine Sillari.
The game was now 7-5. And it stayed that way, with no more runs scored in the sixth and seventh.
Despite Lexington's victory, and Goss's allowed runs, Wellesley's assistant coach Pete Leone said that Goss pitched very well.
Goss allowed four walks, threw three wild pitches, and struck out six batters, with back to back strike outs in the bottom of the sixth.
Two notable moments of the game were both defensive plays.
Wellesley's third-baseman, Emily Dew, threw for a double play in the bottom of the fourth. She caught the ball, which forced Orcutt out from first and threw to get Sillari out at first.
Lexington's left-fielder Robin Beaulieu called and missed two catches in a row in the third inning, which allowed two double hits. But she finally secured the ball on Cabonaro's power hit during Wellesley's last chance in the seventh.
"Number 37 (Beaulieu) made a good catch after missing those two," said Pete Leone.
"(The Raider's) played very well," he continued. "Almost flawless on field. Well executed (plays). Just didn't generate enough."
Wellesley is scheduled to play the Arlington Crimson Tide Thursday at 7:45 p.m. at Wellesley's Hunnewell Field.
