IMAGE GALLERY: 3rd Graders Want You to Conserve Water

Inspired by a lesson on the water cycle, this group of students decided to get their message out.

The third grade students in teacher Kerry Ciccone’s class were so inspired after studying water conservation, that they made a decision to spread the message. The students made posters and wrote essays to discuss the importance of water conservation.

“They wanted to get the message out,” said Westborough Public Schools Literary Specialist Susan Bardsley. “These pieces are written with passion. They made posters and followed up by writing fabulous pieces where they took a stand. The pieces are so beautiful. And isn’t this what learning is all about?”

“I am so proud of how hard my students worked on this project,” Ciccone said. “They worked collaboratively on their writing and their posters. They are very excited to share their writing with Westborough Patch!”

And we’re excited to share it, Mrs. Ciccone! Congratulations on this group of Whiz Kids!

We All Depend on 1%, by Vaibhavi James, Ethan Nolin-Halpern, Tyler Nagi

Have you ever wondered what would happen if all our fresh water was polluted? Well the results wouldn’t be good. We can prevent that from happening by conserving water so everything can live.  Here is why.

The world’s water is 97% salt water. So that leaves only 3% left for us. But the number lowers because 2% is locked up in glaciers. So that leaves only 1% for every single living thing!

Another reason is that Earth has more people than ever and because of that by 2025, ½ the world will have trouble getting the water they need.

Also if people in one area use too much water, the other area won’t have enough. That’s another challenge. This is why it’s important not to waste water.

So people should conserve water because it is one of the most important resources to humans.  Please conserve water for the sake of living things.  If we all chip in we can all save a lot of water.

The True Story of Conserving Water, by Natalie Chace, Sam Colebourn, and Nikki Farmer

Why should we conserve water?  Here’s why: all living things in the world need water to survive.  Fresh water habitats are key to animals’ survival, too.

Also we can only use 1% of Earth’s water and we need to share it with every living thing in the world. If we use too much water to make things we won’t have enough water to survive.

Although the world is not running out of fresh water, at times it’s not there when we need it. For instance take Greenland; it has more water than it needs. And Marsabit, Kenya doesn’t have enough fresh water for everyone.

In addition, if people use too much water in one area, there may not be enough for another area nearby. Not all water is safe either. Some water can make you really sick.

Earth has more people than ever! By 2025 about ½ the Earth might not have enough fresh water.  Because of these reasons we should try to conserve fresh water.

Every Drop of Water Counts, by Nick Choate, Sammi Edinberg, and Vikrant Rajasaker

Have you ever thought of saving water? There’s actually 3% fresh water in the world. Except 2 % of that is fresh water is stuck in glaciers. So that leaves 1% of fresh water for us to drink. It is important to conserve water because all living things need it.

If you conserve water, you can save trillions of lives. Fresh water habitats are key to animals’ survival. If you save water, you can save people and aquatic animals.

Earth has more people than ever so by 2025, about ½ of the earth might not have enough fresh water. 2025 is only 13 years away and years go by pretty quickly.

If we use too much water to make things, we won’t have enough water to survive. Also if people in one area use too much water, there may not be enough for people in another area.

Although the world isn’t running out of fresh water, at times it’s not there when we need it. You can die if you don’t have water so please save water!

Every Drop Counts, by Nikhita Athipathy, David Smethers, Arjun Kumar

Fresh water is a key to all living things. It is important to conserve water because all living things need water to survive.

Did you know that 97% of the world’s water is salty and undrinkable? Only 3% is fresh water and 2 % is locked up in glaciers. Only 1% is fresh and available for all living things to drink and use.

If we use too much water to make things we won’t have enough water to survive. The more water we use now, will affect how much water we have in the future.

Six countries have ½ of all the Earth’s fresh water. So if they don’t conserve water, the other countries won’t have enough.

They Earth depends on the 1% of fresh water that is given to all living things, so WE MUST CONSERVE WATER!

CONSERVE!

Don’t Waste It, by Cole Anderson, James Fitzgibbons, Drew Stanton

Do you want to die of thirst? NO, I thought not. This is why it is important to conserve water. Every living thing needs it to survive. Did you know that Earth has more people than ever? If we don’t conserve water, by 2025 ½ of the world might not have enough water.

Another reason is only 1% of the Earth’s water is drinkable because 97% is salty and 2% is locked up in glaciers. The whole world relies upon that 1%. If only we could use 3% life would be a lot easier.

On top of that, if we use too much water to make things we won’t have enough fresh water to live. We use 2,700 gallons of water to make a pair of blue jeans. That’s a LOT!! That’s why you should conserve water.

The third reason is if people in one area use too much water, people in another area might not have enough fresh water. Plus fresh waters are habitats to many animals. Fresh water is key to their survival.

These ways have probably convinced you to conserve water, but just remember every living thing needs water to survive so conserve water!

We Don’t Have as Much as you Think, by Eva Drotch, Jessica Gibbons, and Colleen McGrath

People should conserve water because all living things need it.  Of all the water in the world, only 1%  is fresh water. If people start polluting that 1% of fresh water, there will be no more fresh water and we will all die.

If we use too much fresh water when we do things we won’t have enough to survive. For example, if you leave the water on when you brush your teeth, you will waste 5 whole gallons of fresh water.

Although the world is not running out of fresh water, at times it is not always there when we need it. In some countries people struggle to get fresh water because ½ of the world has a lot of water and other countries don’t.

Fresh water is the key to animals’ survival. The animals live in fresh water. If we don’t conserve water there will be no more water for animals to live in and they would die.

You should conserve water because we don’t have a lot. We can only use 1% of all the water in the world and without water all living things will die. That’s why you should conserve water.
