WESTBOROUGH, MA — Westborough's budget for the coming fiscal year has earned national recognition for the way the town presented its financial plans and priorities.
The town received the Government Finance Officers Association's Distinguished Budget Presentation Award this week, Town Manager Kristi Williams announced at a Select Board meeting on Tuesday. The award recognizes Westborough's fiscal 2027 budget and the staff members who prepared and developed it.
The GFOA established the award program in 1984 to promote high-quality budget documents among state and local governments. Budgets must meet the organization's criteria and serve as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide and communication tool.
About 1,900 governments receive the award each year, the organization reports.
Westborough has published the complete fiscal 2027 budget and its individual sections on the town website. The town's Annual Town Meeting budget presentation said the budget was developed around a goal of maintaining existing service levels.
Town Manager Kristi Williams thanked the employees who prepared the budget for their work and dedication.
