Apply for First Lizzi Marriott Scholarship

Applications are due April 30.

The first scholarship honoring Westborough resident Elizabeth "Lizzi" Marriott will be awarded in June.

The Lizzi Marriott Intrepid Explorer Fund will present a $2,000 scholarship to a graduating high school senior or other student studying marine sciences at a four-year college, according to the scholarship announcement.

Applications are available here, and due April 30.

"The Lizzi Marriott Intrepid Explorer Fund has been established by the Marriott family as ameans to honor and celebrate the life and passion of Lizzi Marriott. It is a scholarship fund for young adults looking to embrace an education and life working in marine sciences," the announcement notes.

Applicants must have U.S. citizenship, be enrolled in an accredited four-year marine sciences program, be a full-time student for a year after getting the scholarship, and have at least a C grade-point- average, the announcement says.

Applications will be reviewed based on GPA, "How the essay demonstrates the applicants desire to protect our oceans and educate others about the wonders of our surrounding waters" and "relevant volunteer and work experience," the announcement says.

These applicants will receive preference: "Westborough High School graduates, volunteers at the New England Aquarium and University of New Hampshire students studying marine sciences," the announcement notes.
