Artistic Westborough 3rd Grader Wins College Scholarship

student Clarene Martin won second place in the Massachusetts Educational Financing Authority Annual College Savings Art Competition. The art contest, open to students throughout the state, required students to draw a picture of what they want to be when they graduate from college. 

The third-grader will be awarded a $2,000 scholarship, made payable to a U.Fund College Investing Plan account. She will also be recognized with a visit to the Statehouse on June 22. 

MEFA, with support from the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, opens the contest every year to Massachusetts students of public, private, charter and home-based schools in grades 3, 4, and 5.

Clarene wants to be an animal photographer. Her winning drawing (attached to this article) is of her photographing animals while on safari.
