How does Westborough fight flooding?

Saari presented Egan, the president of Carruth Capital LLC, with Westborough's first stormwater management recognition award during last Tuesday night's selectmen's meeting.

Egan spent about about 100 hours last year trying to reduce the potential for flooding both on his property and others, including abutting Massachusetts Department of Transportation right-of-ways that "if they're not maintained," flood public ways and private property, Saari said.

Egan "tried to work with the Department of Transportation to improve a flooding condition in the West Park Drive/Flanders Road/Technology Drive watershed," Saari noted.

Egan said his company takes "stormwater management very seriously."

"It protects our tenants. It protects our property. And it also protects our neighbors," he said.

Saari said he himself, since 2005, has been "working very hard to make Westborough a leader in stormwater maintenance."

Westborough has "made a lot of strides" since then, he said.
