Deli Man, the Movie and Deli Duel at Congregation B’nai Shalom
Come taste the best New York and New England have to offer.

Do you dream about extra lean corned beef or pastrami on rye with a fat kosher half dill pickle? How do our local delis stack up against the likes of Katz’ Deli on the Lower East Side? Come to Congregation B’nai Shalom and judge for yourself.
A Jewish deli night will be held at Congregation B’nai Shalom on Saturday, April 14th from 5:30-9:00. The evening will begin with dinner featuring delectable deli favorites from some of the highest rated New York style delis in Massachusetts and Connecticut, as well as New York, topped off by dessert!
Following the dinner, the documentary, Deli Man, featuring deli man Ziggy Gruber and including Jerry Stiller and Larry King among others, will be shown. The film portrays the culture of Jewish delis in America, augmented by stories from such iconic delis as Katz’s, 2nd Avenue Deli, the Carnegie Deli and The Stage Deli. The film highlights the ethnic history and traditions linked to the savory foods served in Jewish delis from the early 1900’s to the present. Top it all off with dessert!
The story of American delis is the story of the Jewish people in this country, their immigration, migration, upward mobility and western assimilation. New York may well be the most celebrated, but substantial and influential ties flowed from Chicago to Detroit, from San Francisco to L.A., from Houston to Dallas, and from Boston to Worcester. Delis were the nucleus of Jewish Cultural life, and the film captures the essence of cultural traditions.
This event is $25/person, and is open to the general public. This event is kosher-style. All attendees must register online by April 9th at www.cbnaishalom.org/deli-duel .
