FinCom Hears School Budget Next Week

The Westborough School Committee will present the school budget proposal to the advisory finance committee next week, and invite selectmen to join them.

The advisory committee discussion is at 7 p.m. Feb. 4, school board Chairman Ilyse Levine-Kanji said last week.

Selectmen have invited the school board to their Feb. 12 meeting, she said.

Levine-Kanji asked the school board if inviting selectmen to the Feb. 4 session made sense.

Vice Chairman Stephen Doret said the school committee has discussed its budget during a number of meetings.

Doret said he wondered “What is the purpose of the request from the board of selectmen?”

“The finance committee has attended many of our meetings to understand the nitty gritty of our work,” he said.

The school committee voted on Dec. 19 to request $42,694,208 next year, a 3.07 percent budget increase.
