ANTicipation filled the auditorium at Fales Elementary School for the 18th annual performance of Goin’ Buggy on May 26.
Goin’ Buggy is a charming, whimsical, musical revue about our country’s largest constituency – the insect population. They air their grievances, point with pride at their accomplishments and demand rights that are long overdue.
Principal Maryann Stannard, who has enjoyed the production in Westborough for fifteen years, welcomed family members, friends and Goin’ Buggy alumni to the show. Stannard later told WestboroughPatch, “I love the independence the students show – once the marching music begins they take off and shine. I love seeing how proud they are of themselves!”

The students put on an outstanding and energetic performance, complete with costumes, props and scenery. Parents everywhere were abuzz with high praise for the show, describing it as “wonderful”, “amazing” and “adorable.”

Every spring, second grade students become busy bees as they enthusiastically engage in an insect unit as part of their science curriculum. Several Fales classrooms are raising a selection of insects, such as butterflies, ladybugs and ants, giving them a chance to observe metamorphosis and insect behavior. Goin’ Buggy is one of the most highly ANTicipated events of the school year for second graders.
The performance also has many important lessons, as Stannard explained. "The children learn teamwork and cooperation and also that speaking in front of a large group is something they can do! They also learn from the show's characters that together you can have your message heard, no matter how small you are.”
Stannard added, "The teachers do an excellent job. When you see the students perform like they did today…you forget any of the little challenges that happen along the way.”
Cast members and their guests enjoyed insect-themed refreshments in their classrooms after the show, celebrating the culmination of many weeks of hard work and practice.
and will perform Goin’ Buggy in June.
