The SNG Story
When the SNG band was founded four years ago, they had no idea their low key Wednesday night practices would turn into huge shows like the 300th anniversary fireworks at Lake Chauncy.

Founding members and Westborough residents Russell Schwartz and Brad Smith just wanted to play music for fun. In fact the band’s name reflects that concept. Because this is a family website, let’s just say SNG is an acronym for silliness and giggles. The name was chosen with Brad and Russell’s previous band in mind.
Brad said, “When Russell called me to start up a new group, I wished him luck and told him I wasn't interested.” But Russell, a local attorney, would not take no for an answer. The earliest lineup of SNG was filled out with Steve Bolivar on lead guitar and Mike Dacri on bass. “I remember that at our first gig we hardly had ten songs we could play together” said Schwartz. Through their connections at Beth Tikvah Synagogue, SNG recruited cantor and keyboardist extraordinaire Dr. Joe Savitt to fill out their sound. Greg Wolodkin, SNG harmonica player, introduced the band to Allen Kiefer who adds saxophone and vocals.

SNG has always had a flexible lineup which varies from 4 to 9 members. As the band continued to play more local area gigs they added to their musical family. The recent additions of local musicians Brian Eggelston and Jodee Frawlee have really solidified the SNG sound.
SNG plays music from the 50’s through 80’s with a little modern dance and country thrown in. You might have seen SNG at the Holiday Stroll, Post Office Pub, Bay State Commons, Appalachian Service Project Gala or Westboro House of Pizza Patio. The band has also played at many charity events around town.
Behind the scenes James Sommerville, a Junior at Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School, keeps the equipment moving and maintained. Local legend Tommy “Tunes” Radogna was instrumental in the early days of the group and still can be seen singing a few songs in cameo appearances at SNG shows.
Come check out the band and take in the fireworks next Saturday after Family Fun Day at the soccer fields on the north shore of Lake Chauncy!
