“I wanted parents to say, ‘What did you learn in physical education today?’ and not ‘What did you do in gym?’”

She said the fitness center opened in 1992 and included three rowers and a bike. Today, the room is lined with various pieces of fitness equipment and the center is part of the physical education curriculum.
