Seth Mazzaglia, who is serving a life sentence without parole for killing and raping Elizabeth “Lizzi” Marriott, a UNH student from Westborough, is planning to plead guilty to trying to escape from jail, reported NECN.
Mazzaglia was given a maximum sentence in August for killing Marriott, 19, and was scheduled to head to trial on Nov. 3 for plotting to escape county jail while awaiting trial for murder and rape charges.

On June 27, Mazzaglia was found guilty by a jury for strangling and raping Marriott, then a UNH freshman, on Oct. 9, 2012. He was also found guilty of first degree murder while committing a felonious sexual act, second degree assault, and two counts of conspiracy to hide the crime and tamper with evidence and witnesses, as reported on Westborough Patch.
Kathryn McDonough is also serving one and a half to three years after a plea agreement. It was argued by prosecutors during the trial that McDonough, Mazzaglia’s former girlfriend, was responsible for Marriott’s death because of a consensual, rough sex act.
