UPDATE: Memorial Day 2012 Event Schedule for Westborough

The traditional parade and ceremonies will take place on Monday, May 28.

 

Editor's note: This listing was updated to include the names of dignitaries, clergy and students who will be participating in the annual parade and ceremonies.

The schedule for the Memorial Day 2012 events to be held on Monday, May 28 in Westborough are as follows:

8 a.m.: Coffee and donuts for parade participants.

  • Meet at the VFW Post 9013 on Milk Street.

8:30 a.m.: Buses Depart for .

  • Master of Ceremonies (MC) Kenneth Ferrera introduces (WHS) Band Director Matthew Lefebvre who will lead the band in playing the National Anthem.
  • MC introduces the Chairman of the Board of Selectmen who in turn will introduce members of the board who will preset the wreath.
  • MC introduces Msgr. Michael Foley of who will lead prayer.
  • MC introduces VFW Post 9013 honor guard who will fire three volleys of rifle fire.
  • WHS band buglers will play TAPS. During TAPS, the US flag will be raised to full staff slowly.
  • This will conclude the services at St. Luke’s Cemetery and all units will march back to the buses to proceed to .

9 a.m.: Buses arrive at Pine Grove Cemetery.

  • Units on Baxter Street should be lined up and ready to march. On the command of “forward march,” units will proceed to march to the Memorial Grove.
  • MC introduces WHS band director Matthew Lefebvre who will lead the band in playing the National Anthem.
  • MC introduces the Chairman of the Board of Selectmen who will in turn introduce members of the board who will present the wreath.
  • MC introduces David Russo of the Assabet Valley Pastoral Center who will lead prayer.
  • MC introduces the VFW Post 9013 Honor Guard who will fire three volleys of rifle fire.
  • WHS band buglers will play TAPS. During TAPS, the US flag will be raised slowly to full staff.
  • MC introduces Band Director Karen Forrest who will lead the band in a selected piece.
  • This will conclude services at Pine Grove Cemetery.
  • All units will march out of the cemetery, take a right down South Street to Midland Cemetery.

9:50 a.m.: Parade arrives at Midland Cemetery.

  • Parade official will split the parade t accommodate all units viewing the services.
  • MC introduces WHS Band Director Matthew Lefebvre who will lead the band in playing the National Anthem.
  • MC introduces the Chairman of the Board of Selectmen who in turn will introduce members of the board who will present the wreath.
  • MC introduces Deacon Linda Birch from the who will lead prayer.
  • MC introduces the VFW Post 9013 Honor Guard who will fire three volleys of rifle fire.
  • WHS band buglers will play TAPS.
  • MC introduces Gibbons Middle School Band Director Karen Forrest who will lead the band in a selected piece.
  • This will conclude services at Midland Cemetery.
  • All units will march to the Forbes Municipal Building World War I, World War II, Korean War and Gulf War memborials.

10:15 a.m.: Parade arrives at Forbes Municipal Building.

  • Parade officials will split the units so all fit in front of the memorials and vehicles no longer needed will be removed and asked to move to the front of the library.
  • MC welcomes officials, dignitaries, participants, veterans groups and citizens.
  • MC will introduce WHS student Shira Berger who will perform the National Anthem.
  • MC introduces Chairman of the Board of Selectmen Leigh Emery who may say a few words to honor those who served from Westborough.
  • Chairman of the Board of Selectmen will introduce invited guest speakers, State Rep. Carolyn Dykema, D-Holliston, and State Rep. Matt Beaton, R-Shrewsbury.
  • MC introduces Chairman of the Board of Selectmen who in turn will introduce members of the board who will present the wreath.
  • MC introduces Gibbons Middle School Band Director Karen Forrest who will lead the band in a selected piece.
  • MC introduces Grand Marshal John Matson and the family of Grand Marshal Stephen Sullivan, who may say a few words.
  • Logan’s orders will be read by Pete Fay.
  • MC introduces President of the WHS National Honor Society Rachel Siegal who will recite the Gettysburg Address.
  • MC will introduce Lorin L. Reed III, Sr., vice commander of the American Legion Post 163 who will present the American Legion School Medal and certificate for outstanding school achievement. Lorin will be standing in for the commander, Nancy Friis-Hansen.
  • MC introduces Rev. Derek Duncan from the who will lead prayer.
  • MC introduces the VFW Post 9013 Honor Guard who will fire three volleys of rifle fire.
  • During the rifle fire, the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts will read the names of Westborough veterans who passed away in 2011.
  • WHS band buglers Greg Waite and Daryl Yang will play TAPS.
  • During TAPS, the US flag will be raised slowly to full staff.
  • MC introduces WHS Band Director Matthew Lefebvre who will lead the band in a selected piece.
  • This concludes the Memorial Day 2012 observance.
  • MC will thank participants and invited guests. All town officials, invited guests and veterans groups are invited to the Westborough Memorial VFW Post 9013 for a cook out.
