New Exit Ramp Opening At Westborough, Hopkinton Interchange
The shift is part of ongoing improvement work by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.

WESTBOROUGH, MA — A major traffic shift is coming to the I-495/I-90 interchange as part of ongoing improvement work by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.
MassDOT officials announced that a new ramp connecting I-90 westbound to I-495 southbound (Exit 106) is scheduled to open on Tuesday, May 12.
The change will require temporary lane closures beginning Monday evening, May 11, as crews complete the traffic shift. By Tuesday morning, the new pattern is expected to be fully in place. If the weather interferes, the opening will be delayed by a few days.

Once the new ramp opens, drivers traveling west on I-90 will encounter two separate exits for I-495:
- The first exit will be for I-495 South
- The second exit will be for I-495 North
MassDOT says signage, messaging and police details will be in place to help guide motorists through the new configuration.

Drivers should expect delays in the area, reduce speed and use caution while traveling through the work zone.
The temporary closures are part of ongoing work associated with the I-495/I-90 Interchange Improvements Project, which aims to modernize and enhance safety at one of the region’s busiest highway connections.
The project will replace the interchange; eliminate the old tooth booth and weaving areas; improve ramp spacing, acceleration and deceleration lanes; add an auxiliary lane from I-495 Northbound to Route 9; and construct new bridges on I-495 over I-90, on I-495 and I-90 over the MBTA/CSX/Amtrak lines, on I-495 Northbound over Flanders Road, and on Fruit Street.
The project is expected to be complete by June 2027.
