Two have officially announced candidacy to run for the 11th Worcester District seat vacated by Matt Beaton.

Two candidates have come forward to announce their candidacy for the 11th Worcester District State Representative seat.

The seat was vacated when Matt Beaton, R-Shrewsbury, was asked to join Gov. Charlie Baker’s cabinet as Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs.

Democrat Jason Palitsch said on his Facebook page this week that he was announcing his candidacy.

“Now more than ever, Shrewsbury and Westborough need a strong voice on Beacon Hill,” he wrote. “I’m running for State Representative to be that strong voice. I’m going to use my energy and my unique experience as both a local official and a former legislative aide to be the effective advocate that our towns need and deserve in the House of Representatives.”

Earlier in the week, Republican Hannah Kane put in her bid for the seat. Launching a campaign Facebook page, she wrote, “The Baker-Polito Administration has wisely tapped Matthew Beaton to be their Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs and I could not be happier or prouder to see him take on that critical role for our state. He will excel in it! As many of you know, community and public service are at the core of who I am. I am excited to share with you my priorities and perspective and I hope to earn your support as I build a strong team to propel me to victory in the special election to be held in 2015!”
