Pay As You Throw Study Continues

The ad hoc committee meets Wednesday night.

The group studying whether a pay as you throw household trash and recycling program makes sense for Westborough will meet with two haulers Wednesday night.

The Ad Hoc Pay As You Throw Committee meets at 7 p.m. in the selectmen's meeting room at Westborough Town Hall.

The group plans to meet with E.L. Harvey and Sons and Waste Zero representatives, according to the agenda.

Selectmen organized the committee on Oct. 23. Town Manager Jim Malloy suggested the committee. Selectmen ultimately will hold a public hearing on the committee's recommendations.

The committee met with Grafton and Northborough officials in November. Both communities have pay as you throw programs.

Westborough does not offer curbside trash and recycling.

Rather, residents pay $120 for a sticker (and $60 for a second sticker) for access to a transfer station available through Westborough's contract with E.L. Harvey and Sons, according to the Westborough Board of Health website. Seniors pay half price for the stickers.
