Public Invited to Talk About New Recreation Center

The Municipal Building Committee met on Wednesday, March 28 to continue its discussions on .

The panel scheduled a public meeting to get resident input about a new recreation center. The date is Tuesday, May 1.

The group also planned two public open house dates at the Residents will be able to tour the station on Saturdays May 5 and 12 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

According to a posting on the town website, other highlights from the meeting include these actions:

  • Voted to continue with Jacunski-Humes Architects and requested the negotiate a contract with Brian Humes.
  • Decided to begin the search for a project manager for the new fire station and requested the town manager draft a request for proposals.
  • Discussed reviewing other potential locations for a recreation center.
  • Discussed the option of design/build for a recreation center and whether this would save money.
  • Discussed the third floor of the Forbes Municipal Building and how some changes could be made. Noted the need to invite the school committee and superintendent in to meet with the architect before moving forward on the design.
  • Discussed setting up a dedicated webpage on the town website that would provide regular updates to residents.
  • Discussed the need to hold evening meetings for voters who may not be able to attend during regular business hours.
