School Officials Clarify Policy About Class Placement Letters

The policy is clear: do not request a teacher for your child. Is this a fair policy?

Over the next few weeks, Westborough school officials will be deciding student placements for 2011-12. The district tradition is to allow parents to send letters explaining concerns and considerations for a child, if they feel it is something that can assist school administrators to best place the child. However, specific teacher requests will not be honored. “We do our best to make the right placement for every student, and we urge you to trust our judgment,” wrote principal Reene Hatherley in a recent parent hand out.

Do you agree with the district policy on parent input about a child’s class placement? If not, how would you change it?
