Sky Zone Moves Closer to Opening
One of the owners says he's 'probably within a week of filing for a building permit.'

Sky Zone Indoor Trampoline Park developer David O'Connor said today he's "probably within a week of filing for a building permit" for his facility at the Speedway Plaza on Route 9.
"I'll probably open sometime in the summer" O'Connor, the part owner of D & S Entertainment of Reading, doing business as Sky Zone Recreation, told the Westborough Economic Development Committee.
The planning board on Feb. 26 approved a special permit for the project, planned for vacant space behind the Burlington Coat Factory at 290 Turnpike Road.

O'Connor said today his facility will occupy about 30,000 square feet, and offer basketball, foam pits, dodgeball courts and the like "all based on trampolines."
Most business will come from ages 6 to about 17, and birthday parties will represent 40 to 50 percent of the business, O'Connor said.

The Westborough facility will offer open jump, where guests pay an hourly fee to use it, he said. O'Connor expects to host fundraisers and corporate events as well.
O'Connor said the facility will offer about 65 jobs: Four to six will be salaried management-level positions, and the rest would be mainly part-time jobs for older teenagers.
One committee member asked O'Connor if Stop & Shop, which also operates at the plaza, has approved his project.
"Until I am actually holding the approval in my hand, I'm not going to say yes," O'Connor said.
