VIDEO: Mr. WHS Crowned at High School

Nine contestants competed in a variety of categories, including formal wear and swimsuit.

This report includes two videos from the event and an image gallery.

On May 12, the auditorium was filled with hundreds of students who watched with great enthusiasm as nine seniors competed for the title of Mr. Westborough High School.

After being nominated by a cross-section of their peers, teachers and coaches and approved by the administration, the boys geared up to compete in the following categories: swimwear, movie montage, talent and formal wear.

Laced throughout the night was video footage of the contestants answering interview questions such as “what is your ideal date?” and “what do you like to do at the beach?” The answers were both serious and humorous - though most often aired on the light hearted side.

The contest kicked off with a choreographed dance routine to Justin Bieber’s Baby.

Competing for the coveted title of Mr. WHS were seniors Brendan Black, Patrick Bryant, Stephen Geller, Andrew Grant, , James Ridge, Shane Ruffing, Richard Sterndale and Doug West.

Judging the competition were Superintendent Marianne O'Connor, Westborough High School teachers Steve DeBoer and Melissa Callender, and Westborough community member Donna Kelly.

In addition to the votes cast by the panel, the audience was able to text their votes during the formal wear competition. Following the competition, while a bloopers video was shown, the judges' scores were tabulated along with those from the audience.

Winning the competition and the title of Mr. Westborough High School was Brendan Black. First runner-up went to Andrew Grant, and Brian Orlando came away with second runner-up. Prizes donated for the event were Red Sox tickets, an iPod and iTunes gift card, a gift card, and a gift card.

Proceeds from the first annual Mr. Westborough High competition are going to the Westborough High School athletic program. More specifically, to a computer based software program called Hudl. According to Mark Ellis, wellness teacher and football coach, Hudl is “a program that breaks down film easily online. It is a way to get game film, practice film and scout film to players to watch on their own since we are always so short on time. It is also a way to achieve all seasons past, present and future. Hudl also stores the films online requiring an access code to get into the program as a safety feature.” The program will benefit all sports at the school.

Based on the success of the first Mr. WHS competition, this may be the start of a tradition at Westborough High School.
