VIDEO: Sixth Grade Musicians Perform Spring Concert

The Mill Pond School sixth grade band and orchestra performed seven selections.

In addition to the video performance, Nancy Wright captured over 40 photographs from the Mill Pond Spring Concert.

On Tuesday, May 10, the auditorium filled with staff, friends and family as the sixth grade band and orchestra performed the annual Spring Concert.

With 120 students, 12 different instruments, and seven pieces, the students presented a night of music that was well-received by all in attendance.

The orchestra, under the direction of Kristin Chartier, performed three pieces. Spring, from Vivaldi's Four Seasons, was highlighted by Ryan Van Doren's solo. The Boogie Man Blues, by Carrie Lane Gruselle, featured soloists Wonjae Jang on violin, Justin Lee on cello and Zlatomir Fung on viola. Making quite an impression, Fung composed his portion of the performance. The final piece was Stone Mountain Stomp by Carl Strommen.

Karen Weeks Forrest directed the band. The group performed four songs: Thunder Bay March by John O’Reilly, A Song for Friends by Larry Daehn (see video), The Band in the Square on the Fourth of July by Pierre La Plante, and Ancient City of Stone by Kirk Vogel.
