Westborough Opens Applications For Community Preservation Funding

The town is accepting preliminary applications for funding in recreation, community housing, historic preservation and open space.

WESTBOROUGH, MA — Westborough residents and groups can now seek town funding for projects tied to community preservation.

The Westborough Community Preservation Committee is accepting preliminary applications for funding in recreation, community housing, historic preservation and open space, with preliminary applications due Oct. 1, 2026, the town announced on Tuesday.

Applicants must submit a preliminary eligibility application to cpc@westboroughma.gov before completing the full project application, the town said..

The committee reviews proposals and makes recommendations to Town Meeting for spending from the town’s Community Preservation Fund. Eligible uses include open space, recreation, historic resources and community housing.

Westborough accepted the Community Preservation Act at Annual Town Meeting on Mar. 19, 2022 and voters approved it at the ballot on Nov. 8, 2022, according to the town. The local CPA surcharge began in fiscal 2024 at 0.5 percent.

The town says Community Preservation Fund spending must be approved by Town Meeting. The CPC is also required each fiscal year to recommend spending or setting aside at least 10 percent of annual fund revenue for open space and recreation, historic resources and community housing, according to the town.
