Westborough Stabbing Death Gets Man 18-Year Prison Sentence

A man pleaded guilty to stabbing a Westborough man in a drug robbery in 2008 in Westborough.

WORCESTER, MA—A man was given 18 years behind bars after pleading guilty to stabbing to death a Westborough man in 2008.

Janleer Povez was sentenced to 18 years in state prison Friday afternon after pleading guilty to manslaughter, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.

In addition to manslaughter, Povez also pleaded guilty to charges arising from his conduct in two trials for the death of Jack A. McGuire, including witness intimidation, threatening, assault and battery on a public employee, assault and battery on a person over 60 and disruption of court proceedings.

Prosecutors recommended a sentence of 21-23 years for all charges. Superior Court Judge Shannon Frison imposed the sentence of 18 years to 18 years and one day recommended by Povez’s attorney.

Judge Frison sentenced Povez to 3-5 years in prison on the charges from the two trials. That sentence is to be served at the same time as the sentence she imposed for the manslaughter plea.

McGuire died after being stabbed in the thigh on April 21, 2008, by Povez during an attempted drug robbery on Florence Street in Worcester.
