WHS Girls Hoop Wins Tourney Opener

The Rangers defeated Quaboag on Sunday night.

The Westborough High School varsity girls basketball team defeated Quaboag, 66-47, in the first round of the 11th Annual Westborough Invitational Tournament on Sunday night, according to Athletic Director Johanna DiCarlo.

The game was the fourth and final one of the tournament's opening round. The round also raised funds for Play 4Kay, is an initiative of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, which runs in partnership with the Women's College Basketball Association and the V Foundation, according to the program's website.

Sunday's other three tournament results were, DiCarlo said: Doherty 35, Millbury 34; Holy Name 51, Shepherd Hill 38; and Algonquin 58, Franklin 46.

The tournament semi-finals are Tuesday.

Westborough will play Algonquin at 7 p.m., DiCarlo said.

Millbury will play Shepherd Hill at 2 p.m., followed by Franklin-Quaboag at 3:30 p.m. and Doherty-Holy Name at 5:15 p.m.

The championship game is at 7 p.m. Friday. The Doherty-Holy Name winner will play the Algonquin-Westborough winner.
