Alcohol permits fueling food fight in Waltham
Special Meeting to permit new alcohol licenses is being held on June 7 at 6 P.M.

The new proposal to issue more liquor licenses is being challenged by a few Waltham restaurant owners, they claim that this proposal would drive the value of their licenses down. This may be true in the short term, however, they fail to mention that many Waltham restaurants received their licenses free and unrestricted years ago.
Issuing these proposed new licenses will help the many existing small family owned restaurants like The Grill Mediterranean Cuisine, Sakura Japanese restaurant and Gustazo Cuban Café, just to name a few, to thrive in the Waltham restaurant scene and bring more visitors who inquire a taste for authentic flavors and variety to the downtown area. This will be beneficial to all and by monopolizing the market and not allowing these permits to be issued will essentially lead to more empty store fronts. Not good for the City of Waltham or it's residence.
The council's licenses and franchises committee will hold a special public meeting on this issue Tuesday June 7, at 6 P.M.
