Owner Katerina Iliades, whose family has served the Boston Greek community for decades, says many of the foods enjoyed during Lent reflect long-standing Greek culinary traditions. “Lent is a forty-day season leading up to Easter when many families embrace traditional fasting foods rooted in the Mediterranean diet,” says Iliades. “The dishes enjoyed during this time — from beans and vegetables to seafood and olive oil — have been part of Greek culinary traditions for centuries.” During the Lenten season, many Christians avoid meat and dairy, turning instead to a vibrant variety of Mediterranean dishes that are naturally plant-based and deeply rooted in Greek culinary tradition. At Greek International Food Market, customers can enjoy a wide selection of traditional homemade Lenten meals including: Okra in tomato sauce Greek string beans (fasolakia) Stuffed grape leaves (dolmades) Giant beans baked in tomato sauce (gigantes) Bean salads and Mediterranean vegetable dishes The market also carries a large variety of Lenten pantry staples and imported Greek products, including vegan Greek pies, Mediterranean vegetables, canned and dried beans, and an extensive olive bar featuring a wide selection of Greek olives. The 127th and final commencement for Mt. St. Joseph Academy in Brighton took place on Wednesday evening, May 23 in the school assembly hall. At 6 p.m., the class of 2012, escorted by lower classwoman lined up outside and filed into the auditorium in a reserved front section to the tune of pomp and circumstance.  Delivering the invocation was Sister Mary L. Murphy, CSJ, president of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph.  The salutatory address was presented by Songja Ono and the valedictory by Kelly Ann Brennan. Among the 49 graduates are one from West Roxbury: Alia Kerany and two from Roslindale: Rebecca Pruesser and Niza Tavarez.  Ms. Kathleen Fraser, principal addressed the class and presented the diplomas.  In September, Mt. St. Joseph and Trinity Catholic in Newton will merge into St. Joseph Preparatory School at the Brighton campus.

Our Walk for Hunger starts at 11AM and is approx 2 miles.
Maps will be provided for the stops along the way.
There will be a cookout and a celebration after.
A drawing of the participants' maps for prizes at 12:30pm.
We have Commonwealth Team Status which means Rose's Bounty receives 60% of what we raise to use in the parkway area and 40% goes to other hunger initiatives around the Commonwealth.
