Candidates Abound West Roxbury Making Sure They Get Votes and Food

Pizza, ice cream and chicken kebobs are on the menu for Election Day.

While their campaign supporters were out in full force across West Roxbury, the state representative and senate candidates were bouncing around trying to talk to as many voters as possible.

State Senate candidate Brad Williams, a Republican without an opponent in the primary, was up and down Centre Street and at polling sites.

"Today's an easy day for me. We ran it like we had a primary opponent. Teams are circulating throughout the district, making phone calls and holding signs," said Williams, before heading in to the Real Deal Deli for a slice of pizza.

World War II veteran Henry Crede stopped Williams and asked the candidate what Massachusetts should do after having three speakers of the house, one state senator and one city councilor, all indicted.

Said Williams, "Run as a Republican."

Shortly before Williams was at the Real Deal, state representative candidate Kelly Tynan had stopped in to pick up her lunch before heading over to Brookline to hit up the three precincts of the state rep seat over there. Tynan had spent much of the morning at St. George's Orthodox Church. No word on what Tynan grabbed for lunch.

Farther down the road at the Corrib Restaurant was state representative candidate Ed Coppinger, who was ordering chicken kebobs, in between hitting polling sites.

"I've been hearing a lot of low turnout, but a lot of familiarity," said Coppinger. "People who know me, but I didn't think I knew them." He added that a low or high turnout wouldn't affect his chances of winning. "It's about the organization and our supporters, who since April we've put it on people to vote for me."

At the Roche Community Center, state representative candidate Matt Benedetti, was handing out water and ice cream to sign holders, including his wife, Kathy. And then the candidate zoomed off to another polling site barely having time to speak with his wife.
