Ed Coppinger Wins 10th Suffolk State Representative Seat

Ed Coppinger has won the 10th Suffolk District State Representative Democratic Primary tonight.

Unofficial results have Coppinger with around 2,600 votes; Kelly Tynan had 1,538, then Bob Joyce at 932; Paul Sullivan at 859; Pamela Julian at 814; and Matt Benedetti at 399. 

At the West Roxbury Pub, At-Large Boston City Councilor John Connolly announced the vote totals to what had already become a Coppinger celebration party.

After announcing the winner of the Democratic Primary, Coppinger walked in to applause and the Black Eyes Peas' "I've got a feeling". Coppinger smiled and greeted supporters and family. 

"They pride of the neighborhood came out today," said Coppinger. "I'm thankful."

He joked about how residents were getting tired of Coppinger campaign calls, mailings and door knocking. 

State Representative candidate Kelly Tynan was in the audience after giving her campaign supporters the news. Coppinger applauded Tynan for running a clean campaign and said that he would support her in another political race - as long as it weren't against him. 

He then ended by saying that he made a pledge in the beginning of his campaign to have the shortest political speeches. So he stopped speaking and then joined the crowd.

There was no Republican running for the seat, so Coppinger will be the next 10th Suffolk District representative.
