O'Malley was himself a Ward Fellow when he attended Boston Latin School. He graduated in 1997.

The Ward Fellows Program is named for John William Ward of Dorchester, who graduated from the historical halls of Boston Latin School in 1941. Many may recall Ward for his work on the Ward Commission, which investigated corruption in state government in the late 1970s.
