Street Sweeping Changes Expected to Clean Streets Better

During the next two years changes will be phased in to sweep most streets one or two days after trash collection.

 

The Boston Public Works Department said new changes to the City's street sweeping program will better coordinate with weekly trash collection.

During the next two years changes will be phased in to sweep most streets one or two days after trash collection. The Boston Transportation Department will be putting updated signs in neighborhoods to provide accurate information about street sweeping.

Residents who are concerned about remembering the new changes should sign up for the City of Boston’s Know Tow automated alert system that sends reminds to move your cars the night before your street is swept so vehicles are not towed. You can be informed by a host of methods: text message, phone call or email. 

In the South End, streets will be swept for two more months, operating from March to December each year instead of April to November as in previous years.

“It has always been a very high priority for my administration to keep our wonderful city clean,” said Boston Mayor Thomas Menino via press release. “We’re constantly looking for ways to improve our daily operations and by realigning the street sweeping schedule to match the weekly trash collection operations, we’re smartly maximizing the potential of each program to keep our streets clean.”
