West Roxbury Actor Dies in Hospital After Near Drowning

Sean Malone was pulled from the water at a South Boston beach back on July 20.

A 54-year-old West Roxbury man who was rescued from the waters at a South Boston beach back on July 20 has died, the Boston Fire Department confirms.

Sean Malone was swimming in the water at Carson Beach when he suddenly went under, failing to return to the water’s surface. An off-duty firefighter in the area noticed the incident and rushed to Malone’s aid with a boat.

Malone was pulled from the water after a brief search and immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment. The firefighter needed to administer CPR as Malone was not breathing.

Malone, an actor who played in “Gone Baby Gone” and “The Fighter,” had been undergoing treatment as Boston Medical Center since July 20. He died Wednesday night.
