West Roxbury YMCA Kids Join Gov. Patrick Stocking Jamaica Pond
The annual rite of spring, the restocking of Jamaica Pond with more than 1,000 trout and salmon, took place Wednesday morning.
West Roxbury YMCA students and teachers, local politicians and even Gov. Deval Patrick were on hand Wednesday for the annual restocking of .
More than 1,150 trout and salmon were released into the pond. Among the attendees were District 6 City Councilor Matt O'Malley and state Rep. Liz Malia, D-Jamaica Plain.

O'Malley was fresh from having on Monday.
Even the landscape mastermind behind Boston's park system, Frederick Law Olmsted, was there in spirit, as JP's Gerry Wright reprised his ongoing role interpreting the 19th-century figure.

“This event is a great way to educate our young people about fishing, wildlife and the importance of protecting our natural resources,” Patrick said in a press statement. “When we teach children about their connection to nature, we foster a greater appreciation and respect for the natural world.”
Students and teachers from the , Friends of the Children-Boston, and Boy Scouts from Troop 1837 Athol/Orange Elks assisted officials in stocking the pond with 900 rainbow trout, 100 brook trout, 100 brown trout, 50 tiger trout and about ten 8-pound brood stock salmon.
