Building Bridges to the Adult Community Fair A Success!

On the evening of April 30th, the Westwood Public Schools, the Westwood Special Education Parents Advisory Committee and the Westwood Commission on Disability jointly held their first ever vendor fair, Building Bridges to the Adult Community, in the Thurston Middle School gym. 

The theme of the fair was Building Bridges to the Adult Community, and it was designed to provide information for adolescents with special needs and their families as they plan the transition out of high school.

The vendors at the fair included Adaptive Driving Program, Inc., Bay State Financial, the Program for Advancement of Learning (PAL) Program at Curry College, the Department of Developmental Services,  the Department of Mental Health, the Federation for Children with Special Needs, Gateway Arts, Jewish Family & Children Services, Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission, NEADS – Dogs for Deaf and Disabled Americans, Riverside Community Care – Mental Health Services and Supports, The Arc of South Norfolk,  Lifeworks, Rebecca Rizoli; author of Distracted Girl (a memoir about growing up with ADHD), River Financial Group LLC, The Charles River Center – Opportunities & Visions Program, Toward Independent Living and Learning (TILL, Inc.), Westwood Special Education Parent Advisory Council, and the Westwood Disability Commission.

Despite the inclement weather, about 50 people came out to attend the fair, which is expected to be a bi-annual event as transition planning takes place over the course of several years. The organizers of the fair thank everyone for coming and look forward to future successful fairs.
