Westwood Police Log: Vandalism, Car Collision Near University Ave
Both incidents took place in the same area to kick off the month of August.
August 1, 9:12 p.m. – Westwood Police responded to on University Avenue after a burglar went off at the business.
Upon arrival, police found that a window at the front of the building had been smashed in three different places, one being through the first pane and then two other spots had been smashed all the way through to the inside of the business.
Police also noticed a piece of plywood had been placed behind the window that appeared to have been used to gain entry into the building. It was not clear whether entry was actually gained, however, and no one was found at the premises.

The incident is under investigation pending the viewing of security tapes, and it does not appear that anything was stolen from the business, according to police reports.
August 2, 9:58 a.m. – Police responded to the intersection of University Avenue and Canton Street after witnessing a multiple-car accident in the area.

Westwood Police were on patrol in the area when the accident occurred. Two vehicles had been traveling in opposite directions on Canton Street, when one of them – a 2005 Toyota driven by a 48-year-old female from Canton – turned left to cross the travel lane, colliding with a 1999 Mazda, driven by a 19-year-old male from Canton.
The driver of the Toyota, and a 39-year-old female from Canton who was a passenger in the Mazda was taken to Norwood Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Both vehicles were towed from the scene, and police cited the operator of the Toyota for failing to yield the right of way.
