Westwood Police Log: Window Shot With BB Gun, Disturbance at Westwood Library

Juveniles shot a BB gun at a home on Stearns Street, and a woman was advised not to return to the Islington Branch Library.

August 31, 8:19 a.m. – Westwood Police received reports of suspicious activity and vandalism on Stearns Street, after a resident reported a window at their home had been damaged.

After speaking with Stearns Street resident, Police determined that the hole in the window was consistent with that of a BB gun pellet. The owner of the home said she could hear a cracking sound from outside, according to reports, and shortly after she heard what sounded like kids coming from a nearby residence.

Officers followed up with the information provided to them and determined that there were in fact some local juveniles who had been using a BB gun and were responsible for the damaged window.

Parents of the juveniles were advised of the incident and restitution will be carried out by the responsible parties, Police said.The BB gun was turned over to Westwood Police for safe keeping. 

September 2, 4:22 p.m. – After receiving reports of a strange disturbance at the Islington Branch of the Westwood Public Library, Westwood Police arrived to find a woman had been acting in a bizarre manner.

Reports did not elaborate on the behavior, but in speaking with a number of the library's occupants, Police determined that the woman may have been homeless and acting inappropriately.

Officers were able to locate the woman and advised her not to go back into the library, and also told her to be more conscious of how she acts in front of other people.
