Wolverines Run For Fifth Win

Dave Decenzo rolls up 176 yards on the ground to lead Westwood football to 33-8 win over Bellingham.

The Wolverines gridiron gang put last week's loss against Norton behind them and won their fifth game of the season Friday night, defeating Bellingham 33-8 at Flahive field, despite playing without running backs Sean Amaru and Brendan Skehill who both suffered sprained ankles in last week's contest.

Wolverine coach Paul Hallion said his game plan this week against Bellingham would remain the same and he would stick by his run game and offensive line.

And he did just that.

In just his second game of the season after coming off an ankle injury, sophomore Brandon Rodenbush put the Wolverines on the board on their first drive with a 16- yard touchdown run. The drive was set up by three Dave DeCenzo runs of nine, 13 and nine yards respectively. DeCenzo, who was the primary back for Westwood in Amaru's absence, ran for a season-high 176 yards on just 14 carries, including a second quarter 50-yard touchdown run and a 44-yard run in the third.

"All the backs played great," said captain and senior lineman Danny Moloy. "We were real disciplined on the line as well and we just played hard tonight."

Rodenbush finished his evening with 35 yards on the ground on eight carries. Junior lineman Andrew Fiumedora got in the mix as well, and on his first rush of the year in the fourth quarter, he broke free for 35 yards. Just minutes later, he ran in a three-yard touchdown, which was the final score for Westwood on the evening.

"We showed tonight that we are not just a one running back team," said Hallion. And they proved once again they are not just a running team either. Amidst the more than 250 yards on the ground for the Wolverines, senior quarterback Will Smith balanced out the offense, throwing for two touchdowns, the first to Anthony Antonellis, and the second to Glen Parsons.

Both Antonellis and Parsons also contributed to a lock-down Wolverine defense that allowed only eight points. The lone Blackhawks score came on a 25-yard pass as time expired in the first half, something that didn't sit well with the Wolverine coach.

"I didn't even try to mask my anger at halftime because one of the tiebreakers in the league is how many points you give up in the first half, and to give up eight points as time expires is crucial," said Hallion.

Westwood's defense successfully stopping Bellingham twice in the red zone, and held the Blackhawks to 174 total yards. Ryan Neville also recovered a fumble
for the Wolverines and Danny Moloy added his first interception of the year.

Westwood looks to continue its offensive success next week against Dover-Sherborn, who Hallion believes runs a "similar defensive scheme with three down lineman and a lot of linebackers."
