Authorities Seeking Families of 3 of Deceased Found in Weymouth Storage Facility

Former funeral director Joseph O'Donnell has been charged with numerous counts of improper disposal of human remains, among other charges.

Authorities have identified all 12 of the bodies recovered from a Weymouth storage facility in July but are still attempting to locate the next of kin for three of the deceased.

Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley asked for the public’s help Friday in tracking down the families of:

  • William J. McDougall, born in Washington state and a resident of St. Joseph Nursing Center in Dorchester when he died at age 67.
  • Maggie Moore, born in Alabama and a resident of the Annemark Nursing Home in Revere when she died at age 65.
  • Sadie Waddy, born in Virginia and a resident of Bay Pointe Rehab in Brockton when she died at age 90.

According to authorities, former funeral home director Joseph V. O’Donnell, 56, left the remains in the Public Storage unit at 1470 Main St. in Weymouth. He also is accused of storing remains in a unit on Linwood Street in East Somerville.

O’Donnell is currently facing 278 counts on the following charges: improper disposal of human remains, larceny, embezzlement, forgery, uttering, returning a false death certificate and acting as a funeral director without a license. He was held on $50,000 bail.

O’Donnell’s Dorchester funeral home on Neponset Avenue was foreclosed on in 2013. In addition to improperly storing the remains, he failed to return funds provided by clients to cover the cost of future funerals.

Of the nine next of kin already contacted, eight of those families said they previously received cremated remains, now believed to belong to someone other than their loved one.
