Four Weymouth Students Advance to Leadership Conference

Main Street Grille will be holding a meat raffle this weekend for four Weymouth High School students who have excelled outside of the classroom.

The money raised will help pay for the four students to attend the 49^th annual SKILLS USA National Skills & Leadership Conference in Kansas City from June 24-28.

To advance for the conference, freshman Dylan O'Brien won Gold in Career Choice Commentary, junior Peter Newman was elected to a Massachusetts State Officer position, junior Brianna Boidi won Gold in Cosmetology, and senior Sabina Khalid competed in Medical Terminology.

At the conference, the high school students will compete against 6,000 other technical education students from across the country in 98 different trade, technical and leadership fields.

The students will work against the clock and each other, proving their expertise in occupations such as electronics, computer-aided drafting, precision machining, medical assisting and culinary arts.

The Weymouth contestants will be helped by industry, trade associations, and labor organizations and will demonstrate skills including extemporaneous speaking and conducting meetings by parliamentary procedure.

O'Brien and Newman are among 33 voting delegates representing Massachusetts,  according to SkillsUSA Advisor Julie Bowen.

Boidi and Khalid will participate in leadership seminars, the building of an urban orchard community service project sponsored by Timberland in downtown Kansas City, Bowen said.
