New Weymouth Fire Chief Says He's Humbled

"I'm lost for words," new Fire Chief Keith Stark said. "I'm humbled."

Weymouth Fire Capt. Keith Stark was sworn in as the the new department chief on Tuesday morning.

In front of his family, friends and fellow firefighters, Stark said he was humbled.

The 16 year Weymouth Fire Department veteran was appointed by Mayor Sue Kay on Friday.  He will succeed Chief Joseph Davis, who retired the same day..

Stark, 43, grew up in East Weymouth and graduated from Weymouth High School in 1988. 

He was among six candidates to apply for the position.

After serving in the US Navy, Stark joined the department in 1997, was named Lieutenant in 2005 and appointed Captain in 2009.

"It's an exciting moment in my life, my family and myself," he said. "It's overwhelming right now; it's been a crazy ride the last month. It hasn't even hit me yet."

Stark's wife, Julie pinned the chief badge on his uniform on Tuesday to make it official. He was sworn in by Town Clerk Kathleen A. Deree.
