South Shore Hospital Earns Fourth Consecutive

“A” Grade for Patient Safety from The Leapfrog Group

The Fall 2017 rating designates the hospital among the safest in the U.S.

SOUTH WEYMOUTH, Mass. – South Shore Hospital earned an “A” safety grade rating from The Leapfrog Group, a designation that ranks the hospital among the safest in the United States. The Fall 2017 rating is the fourth consecutive time that South Shore Hospital has earned the highest safety grade.

The Leapfrog Group — a national nonprofit health care ratings organization – assigns letter grades to hospitals based on their patient safety and performance twice a year.

Known as the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades, safety ratings of A, B, C, D and F are assigned to hospitals nationwide based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other harms. South Shore Hospital was one of 832 hospitals nationally to earn an “A” for its performance. Of the 60 Massachusetts hospitals Leapfrog reviewed, a total of 34 earned an “A” safety grade.

Developed under the guidance of a Blue Ribbon National Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign letter grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals bi-annually. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
