South Shore Hospital Looking for Cancer Center Volunteers

South Shore Hospital is looking for motivated, caring individuals to volunteer in the Friendly Shop and Cottage Shop, as patient and visitor escorts in the Main Lobby and South Lobby, and to give hand massages to patients at the Cancer Center.  

Below are some of the duties that volunteers in these positions perform:

Friendly and Cottage Shop Volunteers
·        Providing excellent customer service
·        Marking and stocking merchandise
·        Selling merchandise and tallying end of day receipts
·        Experience with cash register and credit care machine preferred

Main and South Lobby Escort Volunteers
·        Providing excellent customer service
·        Learning hospital layout
·        Responding to questions from patients and visitors
·        Communicating directions and other hospital information
·        Pushing and using wheelchairs in a safe manner
·        Walking long distances safely through the hospital

Cancer Center Hand Massage Volunteers
·    Warm, caring, sensitive individuals who display compassion to cancer patients.
·        Recognizing the emotional needs of cancer patients.
·        Following directions and taking supervision.
·        Working with patients and families in stressful situations while remaining empathetic and non-judgmental.
·        Committed, reliable, flexible and able to provide at least a one-year commitment.
·        Supporting all adult patients and demonstrating sensitivity to cultural, ethnic and socio-economic differences.
