South Weymouth, Mass. – August 22, 2017 – South Shore Health System's Youth Health Connection will host a month-long, interactive exhibit at Hanover Mall called "Weeding Through the Myths” to provide youth and adults with information about upcoming changes to Massachusetts laws regarding medicinal and recreational marijuana use. “Weeding Through the Myths” will officially open on September 5 and will run through September 30.
The first of its kind display, developed in collaboration with the Plymouth County and Norfolk County District Attorneys’ offices, will familiarize the public about the medical and legal ramifications of the new marijuana laws, as well as how marijuana affects the adolescent brain.
“Weeding Through the Myths” is the latest example of how our Youth Health Connection collaborates with local community leaders to promote the health and well-being of our region’s youth,” said Barbara Green, MD, Medical Director/Youth Health Connection. “The legalization of marijuana in Massachusetts is among the most pressing public health issues of our time. We are pleased to do our part to help the community understand the implications of marijuana use.”
On Wednesday, August 30, Youth Health Connection will host a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Hanover Mall at 9 a.m., attended by Health System representatives, local and state officials, and members of local law enforcement. Dr. Jason Tracy, chief of emergency medicine at South Shore Hospital, will serve as keynote speaker.
Beginning Tuesday, September 5, the exhibit will be open to the public at select times throughout the month (see below). The exhibit will be staffed at all times by clinical and legal professionals to help answer questions about marijuana. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Mondays and Wednesdays: 5-7 p.m.
Tuesdays and Thursdays: 10 a.m.-1 p.m
Saturdays: 1-3 p.m.
