Weymouth Area Residents Sound Off on Facebook About Dangerous Intersection

An operator of a Jeep suffered non-life threatening injuries from a rollover accident in Columbian Square on Friday and many residents are pointing fingers at a dangerous Weymouth intersection as the cause.

Weymouth Fire Fighters, Paramedics and Police responded to the crash at 12:45 p.m., according to the Weymouth Police Department. The accident occurred on a sunny afternoon in clear conditions.

Many local residents on Facebook are blaming the dangerous Columbian Square intersection for the accident.

On the Weymouth Police Department’s Facebook Page, local residents responded with the following:  

Kelseigh Rice: That square is horrible with no lights.

Melissa L Hammerquist: Great job to all who helped, but maybe this would not have happened if there were lights at this intersection.

John Gaynor: the guy probably did what we all do when driving through Columbian square, Closed his eyes and hope he makes it through. When will the town grow a set and not allow the business association to dictate whether lights are need or not.

Caryn Michalski Bellew: definitely the worst intersection in Weymouth.

Dave Savoie: No lights needed, pleasant St. has the right of way. It's just a matter of knowing how to drive.

Tara Anderson: Lights are totally needed. It's a scary intersection.

Janet Downes Lovewell: There's way too much traffic going through that intersection to not have the flow of it controlled by traffic lights.

Kellie Coughlin:1245pm? I drove by at 430pm on Friday and there was a 3 car accident here also....I'd love to see the accident statistics from this intersection. I drive through 2 times a day and it's always bad.

Shana Luciano: That's where I had my very first accident.

Dave Savoie: Lights would put the 5 pm jam up there all the way past the high school, it already makes the church.

Bill Favreau: I drive a truck for a living in Weymouth that is by far the worst intersection in town people make it 3 lanes the 2nd one I believe would be the yeild rotary on north st? By the Abigail Adams house.

AnnMarie Butcher: That intersection is the worst one in weymouth. How come there are no lights at that intersection?? it sucks getting through it ...your lucky if you get thru it alive !

Tom Kennedy: People don't obey the stop signs, that's why there are accidents there. No need for lights.
