Opinion: Endorsements In The Wilmington Selectmen's Race

Selectman Jonathan Eaton endorses the two incumbents and Jomarie O'Mahony.

WILMINGTON, MA -- The following letters were submitted ahead of the town election on April 27. In the six-way race for two selectmen's seats, incumbents Greg Bendel and Kevin Caira are being challenged by Robert Fasulo Jr., Mark Maselli, Daniel Murphy and Suzanne Sullivan. Kevin MacDonald, Daryn Marsh and Jomarie O'Mahony are running in the three-way race forthe remaining year in the term on a vacant seat.

Selectman Eaton Backs Incumbents, O'Mahony

I write in support of the candidacies of Jomarie O’Mahony, Greg Bendel, and Kevin Caira for the Board of Selectmen.

Selectmen Bendel and Caira have worked to prioritize public safety concerns, both by pushing to engage with the MBTA with the commuter rail issues at the North Wilmington Station, and by increasing staffing in the police and fire departments, the latter of which moves us closer towards realizing a long-overdue North Wilmington Fire Substation. They continue to push to revise the process of accepting unaccepted ways, and cyclically presenting multiple unaccepted ways for acceptance at town meeting. They have advocated for increased and responsible affordable housing with the drafting of an inclusionary zoning bylaw. They have pushed for a more organized and citizen-driven approach towards designing our local economy through forming an economic development committee.

Jomarie O’Mahony is a dedicated and skilled community leader who will seamlessly transition her advocacy for our community to the Board. As the founder of a consistently-growing grassroots community organization that provides meals, household goods, utility bill assistance, holiday gift and care packages, back-to-school supplies, scholarships, and school staff recognition awards, her commitment to improving our community is beyond reproach. Her advocacy as a child welfare attorney demonstrates a dedication to protecting the most vulnerable members of our society, and has prepared her well for advocating on behalf of the residents of Wilmington.

Jomarie O’Mahony, Greg Bendel, and Kevin Caira have demonstrated a dedication to serving our community that is unparalleled in this election, and each seeks to lead by uniting, rather than dividing. I ask that you join me in voting for Jomarie O’Mahony, Greg Bendel, and Kevin Caira on Saturday, April 27.

Maselli Has Tremendous Character

In life, you meet people and sometimes get that instant feeling of “he’s a good guy” or “they’re good people”. That is exactly how I felt when I met Mark and his wife, Lilia Maselli and their family. Mark and his wife are kind, hardworking people. While running a business and raising their three boys, they continue to be active, not only in the lives of their children, but within the Community.

Mark is a man of tremendous character possessing high morals and strong family values. These are qualities that I am passionate about and respect in people and look for when deciding on whom to cast my votes for.

One thing I know for sure, is that while Mark may have his opinions on municipal issues, I know he will offer and state these opinions in a non-confrontational manner. Professionalism and respect is what we should expect and deserve from our elected officials. I know I can count on Mark to conduct himself in this manner when he is on our Board of Selectmen.

I encourage all Wilmington residents to join me this April in electing Mark Maselli to the office of Selectman.

Thank you.
