Peggy Kane, A Longtime Education Advocate In Wilmington, Dies
Kane had stepped down from the school committee last year after 18 years on the board to deal with health problems.

WILMINGTON, MA — Margaret "Peggy" Kane, who chaired the WIlmington School Committee from 2007 to 2016, died Wednesday. The Wilmington Apple is reporting that Kane died in her sleep and confirmed the story with her family members.
Kane stepped down from the school committee last year after 18 years on the board. The resignation was the result of a series of health issues, and came two years into what Kane promised would be her last, three-year term on the board.
"My time on the School Committee has been truly gratifying," Kane wrote in her resignation letter. "I enjoyed being part of the education of Wilmington's children.

Last fall, the Massachusetts Association of School Committees awarded Kane, a retired school teacher, its Lifetime Achievement Award. She was also aspect in other areas of Wilmington, serving as president of the Friends of the Wilmington Public Library from 2009 to 2018 and volunteering at the library's Bookstore Next Door.
