Selectman Resigning From Wilmington Board
Ed Loud, who was elected in 2017, said a job offer in Maryland he "cannot refuse" forced the difficult decision.

WILMINGTON, MA -- Selectman Ed Loud said Monday he will step down from the board following the Feb. 11 meeting. Loud, who was elected to a three-year term in 2017, said he had accepted a job offer from a company based Maryland. While Loud will continue to live in Wilmington, his new position will require him to spend more time out of town.
It was an offer "that I simply cannot refuse," Loud said at Monday night's meeting. "I could still serve as a Selectman, but personally, I don’t think it’s right to hold onto that seat without being accessible to the residents all week long."
In December, Loud returned to work as a selectman a little more than a week after suffering a heart attack.

Selectmen have to hold a special election at least 65 days after but no more than 90 days following Loud's resignation. The winner of the election would fill the remainder of Loud's term, which ends at the annual town election in 2020.
Selectmen Kevin Caira and Greg Bendel are up for reelection this year and have taken out nomination papers, signaling they will run for reelection. The 2019 annual town election on April 27 falls within the 65 to 90 day window for holding the special election.
