Wilmington Selectmen's Race Gets Crowded

Two challengers will take on the incumbents up for reelection on April 27.

WILMINGTON, MA -- Rob Fasulo, who said he wouldn't run for elected office again after losing a Wilmington selectman's race to Jonathan Eaton last year, seems to have changed his mind. Fasulo will run against incumbents Greg Bendel and Kevin Caira, who are up for reelection in the April 27 town election.

Daniel Murphy and Suzanne Sullivan, who served on the board between 2003 and 2007, also plan to run, setting up a five-way race for the two open seats. Sullivan served on the town's Master Plan Committee and, more recently, has called for the board to be more transparent in a wide range of issues, including the controversial drug treatment center proposed for Middlesex Avenue.

Fasulo has routinely posted criticisms of the board of selectmen on his Facebook page and recently filed a series of records requests under the Massachusetts open records law in an effort to garner details on decisions made on the detox facility proposal. But his decision to enter the race is a reversal from the aftermath of last year's election, when he said he would not run for elected office in the future.

Separately, at least two candidates are running to fill the year left in the term of selectman Ed Loud, who plans to resign after the Feb. 11 board. We're One Wilmington President Jomarie O'Mahony and longtime Wilmington resident Daryn Marsh said they plan to run for that seat in the town election.
